Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has awarded a new Ksh17 billion highway project to a Chinese firm.
In a special ceremony hosted on Monday, April 19, KeNHA Director General Peter Mundinia signed a tender award to China Communication Construction Company.
The company received the Ksh17 billion tender for the construction of Lamu - Ijara - Garissa highway in a period of 36 months.
The company was directed to upgrade the highway, which is 196 kilometers long, to all-weather gravel standards.

Motorists using Uhuru Highway in Nairobi are set to endure long hours in traffic after a road agency closed a section of the busy highway for 20 days.
The closure, which commenced on April 9, is meant to allow for the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway.
According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the 20-day traffic disruption will affect the section between Bunyala roundabout and the Nyayo Stadium roundabout.

There will be a temporary disruption of the flow of vehicle traffic along Uhuru Highway into the capital’s CBD so as to allow for the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway.
According to a communique by the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha), the 20 days traffic disruption will affect Uhuru Highway between Bunyala roundabout and the Nyayo Stadium roundabout
Kenha on Saturday urged motorists to comply with traffic management plans and follow the direction of traffic marshals as well as road signs.

In a statement shared on Monday, March 15, the authority disclosed that it signed the deal with The Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) in the presence of a representative from the World Bank.
The new deal was aimed for the implementation of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HoAGDP).

Twitter The HoAGDP is part of the Government s plan to upgrade the 740-Km Isiolo - Mandera road corridor. It is the remaining unpaved section of the Nairobi - Isiolo - Madera road corridor. The implementation of the project is set to facilitate trade and transport for the Northern and North Eastern region, read the statement in part.

Summary
The pedestrian footbridges are situated in Mlolongo and at Imara Daima near Libra House along Kenya’s first-double decker highway.
The other two footbridges are located in General Motors on Enterprise Road and at St Mark s church in Westlands, Nairobi.
The four bridges on the 27.1km road that links the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Nairobi-Nakuru highway were built between 2009 and 2015.
