UK asset manager Liontrust has announced plans to expand into closed-end investments with the launch of an ESG-focused investment trust.
The Liontrust ESG Trust will be managed by Peter Michaelis, Simon Clements and Chris Foster – all members of the 13-strong Liontrust Sustainable Investment team.
The fund management company said that the launch coincides with a time of rising interest in sustainability and demand for sustainable investment.
Research conducted for Liontrust in December 2020 showed that 78% of wealth managers and 71% of financial advisers have seen an increasing proportion of their clients investing sustainably over the previous year.

The trust s portfolio will aim to hold between 25 and 35 large and small companies with the highest sustainability scores, the company said. The portfolio of ESGT will be managed by Peter Michaelis, Simon Clements and Chris Foster, who are part of the 13-strong Sustainable Investment team with a 20-year track record of managing sustainable funds, it added. It is expected that the prospectus will be published in late May and that the initial issue will close in late June.

A new investment trust focused on sustainable companies is to be launched by Liontrust Asset Management, run by a team with a 20-year track record of managing sustainable funds.
Liontrust is seeking to raise £150mln by means of a placing, offer for subscription and intermediaries offer via various fund platforms for the Liontrust ESG Trust PLC (LON:EGST).
The trust will have a portfolio of between 25 and 35 holdings of large and small companies that the Liontrust Fund Partners team believe “will capitalise on and help drive the key structural growth trends that will shape the sustainable global economy of the future; will provide or produce sustainable products and services; and have a progressive approach to the management of environmental, social and governance issues”.
