I Got the COVID Vaccine! Now Can I Go Back to Normal? (The Short Answer Is No.)

People, we’re finally getting there! As we trudge into 2021, COVID-19 vaccines are finally rolling out nationwide albeit at an incredibly slow rate, which many say reflects the Trump administration’s failure to plan and scale up preparation last year. And of course now we have the worry of that new, highly transmissible COVID variant first found in South Africa showing up in the U.S., and the possibility that existing vaccines may be less effective against it. Gulp.
Across New York state, medical providers in recent weeks had the same story: They had been forced to throw out precious vaccine doses because of difficulties finding patients who matched precisely with the state’s strict vaccination guidelines and the steep penalties they would face had they made a mistake.

Reeeeeally weird that the first major COVID decision made by the Biden administration will end up putting Sleepy Joe on the side opposite Anthony Fauci (and Donald Trump).
It’s worth three minutes to read this post for background if you missed it on Sunday. The Trump administration’s policy is to reserve half of the existing supply of distributed vaccine to make sure that people who’ve gotten their first shot can get their second in a timely way. Pfizer and Moderna each recommend that the second dose be given within three or four weeks of the first; if the dose isn’t given in the timeframe, there’s no way of know
