Baw Baw Shire Council makes switch to LED street lighting
New LED streetlights in towns throughout Baw Baw Shire will reduce Council’s power bills for years to come and save approximately 365 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per annum.
Council secured $575,027 in funding for the project through the Australian Government’s $500 million Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, which supports Councils and communities to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
This project is the second stage of LED lighting upgrades in Baw Baw Shire and has replaced 1,100 existing high-pressure sodium vapour, compact fluorescent, Twin T5 and high wattage mercury vapour lights on Council owned streets and roads.

Councillors appointed to Advisory Committees
Specialist advisory committees will inform and influence future Council decision making following the adoption of Council’s first Advisory Committee Policy and the appointment of Councillor representatives this week.
While the Local Government Act 2020 does not reference Advisory Committees, Council has a long history of engaging community members through specialist committees and has opted to strengthen their function and improve transparency through formal annual reporting to Council and publicly available minutes.
Standard Terms of Reference have also been adopted, ensuring consistent governance across the board.
Each Advisory Committee will have a minimum of five members, with at least two Councillor representatives and three to eight community members, selected based on their skills, equity, and diversity.
