White house. We expect that service to end just before 10 00 this morning. Then its off to the white house for coffee and tea with president and mrs. Obama and the joint Congressional Committee on inaugural ceremonies. Guys, back home it truly is a hallmark of our democracy and it will be on full display this morning. Very much so. Just kind of the peaceful transition that we all expect even though its been such an unexpected election year. Doesnt look like theres anything different, carl, from what ive seen from all the other inaugurations which is a new president comes in, old president s there and it just transitions. Do you feel that are people saying, no, this ones going to be different this time . I think the general take down here this morning is that as different and nontraditional as the campaign was, trump is demonstrating real respect for the traditions of the inauguration. Going through the traditions of, for instance, this Service Today at st. Johns. That goes back to fdr.
Good morning, a very warm welcome to Worldwide Exchange on cnbc. Im will fred frost along with Courtney Reagan whos in for sara. Lets get straight to the Global Action for record highs. All three of the major indices plus the russell as well. We had about 0. 4 of gains for the s p. The nasdaq a little behind that. The dow a little ahead of that. And a record in today share price not market cap high for apple, but the rally was really clearly led by financials. We had the bank of america up around 3 . The broader financials index up 1. 25. The spark was janet yellen being a little more hawkish than expected and that pushed yields higher which benefitted banks. Futures expected to open higher once again to new records. The dow higher by shy of 50 points. The tenyear treasury note, as i said, that move in yields that fed chair janet yellen sparked did help the bank stocks in particular. We crossed 2. 5 as march seemed to be back on the table with some of the comments, albeit investors rea

Trading days of the year. Well see what happens. The dow is up 21 right now. Warren buffet telling cnbc this morning he doubled his holdings in apple this year. Is it too late to follow his lead . Well debate it. After the bell, who will President Trump pick to sit on the fed board. Jim grant will tell us exclusively. Some people in the past have suggested maybe mr. Grant would make a fine fed governor. Fun take on the subject. Looking forward to it. Lets start with the news out of washington today. Eamon javers back at the white house and ylan mui is at our washington bureau. Eamon, a surprise appearance at the press briefing. Reporter yeah, thats right, bill. We had a surprise visitor. The s p and dow looking to snap three session losing streaks which hasnt happened since january. We got that pull back in energy yesterday resulting in those losses. And as we said its been eight years since the stock market had bottomed. That of course was when mark haines made a very big call right here on this show. However, im going to step out on a limb here. This is the big hold on everyone. Weve been waiting for this. I think were at a bottom. I really do. Ever since what we call the haines bottom, the s p has surged more than 250 , the dow also more than tripling its gains. The nasdaq outperforming both indices up 360 .
