you know? we don t know for sure. my fantasies run amok. smoochy-smuchoochy, wendy retirement, come on. this morning, a high pollen count. the count jumped dramatically yesterday. went to the high range. we ll get a new count late this morning. it is mostly tree pollen and oak pollen at that. so if you suffer from the oak tree pollen, no doubt you have been feeling it the last couple of days. counties in blue have a threat for frost. it contains the the area in northern parts of maryland and the panhandle of west virginia into pennsylvania. we could have scattered frost there. elsewhere, we ve got temperatures above freezing. it s certainly chilly. we re in the mid 30s, montgomery, arlington, fairfax, upper 30s in prince george s counties. mid 40s in washington. near the bay, low to mid 40s. here s the day planner. sunrise at 6:55. by 9:00, partly sunny. and then by noontime, we ll have a lot of clouds around. we ll be in the 40s through mid morning. then by noont

here. i m from south carolina, it s not hot. we re from england and we think this hot weather is a little too hot for us. under the midday sun, the temperature on the national mall registered 105 degrees. when i was growing up, all we could do was put the windows up, put the fan on and basically sleep in our underwear. even 9 news photographer registered a skin temperature of 94 degrees. so with a poster board, a sharpie, and a colleague with a good sense of humor, we solicited your memorable hot weather stories. my wife would decide to go for the walk and about 400 meters and were in running shoes and that was the scariest feeling in my life. the bus that i usually catch home was not running, so i had to walk 2 miles and it was horrible. and my shoe broke. we went up into the mountains in the middle of summer and it wasn t all that far. we got caught in the middle of a snowstorm. our infrared thermometer registered 111.8 degrees and my hard working colleagues

in many locations. la plata 107, fredericksburg, 113. 100 in manassas and culpepper. very hot and humid afternoon today, the good news is,we are going to start to cool down a little bit over the next couple days. your forecast still hot around 9:00 tonight. temperature around 85. 82 by 11:00 and waking up tomorrow morning, temperatures a little above average, temperatures in the mid-70s, i think the humidity will be a little more comfortable and easier to deal with tomorrow. as we move into thursday and friday, it gets even better. we ll talk about that in a little while. this hot weather is causing problems and delays on metro s red line. metro is single tracking between the tacoma park and the forest glenn metro stations. the heat is causing the metal rails to expand. we re told there are 15 minute delays in both directions. this heat is indeed uncomfortable. it can be dangerous. craig melvin is down on the national mall with a look at how people are coping with all the h

here s a look at our radar. no precipitation. lingering showers and thunder over the lower eastern shore. we still have, though, a flood watch in effect and some flood warning down through right around the southern blue ridge where they had heavy downpours overnight. some creeks and streams may be rather high. right now generally in the 60s around the region. out in the mountains in the 50s. low 60s on the eastern shore where they are getting some of that rain now. here s what s been happening over the last 12 hours. can you see those storms that came through. they are way off to our 0 south and east. behind that some breaks in the clouds and that full moon in the western sky. as the day progresses we might get an afternoon thunderstorm popping up or a passing shower. before that, we ought to make it up into the upper 70s. more showers tonight. linger into early saturday morning. sun back saturday afternoon with highs around 80. heating up on sunday and memorial day. now, ash
