He’s known as the “Pin Man”.
“Everybody knows me, everybody calls me pin man all the time,” said Garthe.
All day for the 8 days of the festival he stands out by the beer tent and sells National Cherry Festival pins. He’s been doing this for the past 31 years.
They’re required for entry into the tent, but to Garthe, they mean so much more.
“My goal is to reach $1 million to raise for the festival,” said Garthe.
This year, he’s already reached two milestones.
“I reached $700,000 I raised for the National Cherry Festival,” said Garthe. “I also hit the milestone of 13,000 gold pins today.”
