Ukraine support: Winnipeggers showing support for war-torn country

It has been five weeks since Russia started its invasion of Ukraine, and Winnipeggers are continuing to show their support at solidarity events and grassroots fundraisers.

Family thanks Winnipeg organization for supporting mother who died from COVID-19

  WINNIPEG It started as a way to ensure Winnipeggers in COVID-19 isolation got healthy meals and were supported. It ended up leaving a final memory to last a lifetime. Paulette Cote, her husband Peter Czehryn, and other family and friends have been running the Winnipeg Soup Fairies, using their cooking and baking skills to bring soup and some smiles to people who need them. “We feel privileged that we are able to serve these people because that allows us to go out into the community and meet people,” said Czehryn. “It’s a growing thing. We deal with one person, and we deliver soup, but it extends to their family and friends.”

Paulette Côté and Peter Czehryn, a couple that calls themselves the Soup Fairies , have been married for almost 29 years. Côté is retiring this March.  I m on leave from education this year. I worked as a community liaison worker for the last five years. We ve always volunteered so soup just kind of flowed from there, says Côté. While she says that she will miss her school community, this volunteer initiative will keep her and her husband busy now for awhile.
