Alfonso Campitiello, owner of Alfonso’s Pastry Shoppe, dies at 81

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. “He was a legend,” on Staten Island and in the bakery business, said Anthony Campitiello, of his dad, Alfonso Campitiello, who launched Alfonso’s Pastry Shoppe in Castleton Corners in 1969.
Alfonso Campitiello died Thursday just days short of his 82nd birthday after suffering complications with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), said his son, Vincent Campitiello.
“If anyone ever needed a favor, they would go to my dad. He was the first guy to help someone out,” said his son, Anthony Campitiello. “He was a ‘community guy’ in business for so many years. .When he walked into a room, everyone knew him. It was great being around him. When we were golfing at times, people would drive from two or three holes away just to come say hello to him. He always had something good to say about everyone.”
