Matt Wotherspoon had to work overtime in defending his title in the 29th annual Lake County Match Play Championship, defeating Jeremiah Valador of Kelseyville 1 up after 19 holes. The Match Play is the Lake County Amateur Golf Circuit’s version of the longest day of golf as first round winners on Saturday morning at Buckingham Golf and Country Club had to return to the golf course for a final round match that afternoon.
Matt Wotherspoon continued his domination of the Lake County Amateur Golf Circuit on Sunday by shooting a -10 under par 62 to capture the 13th annual Lake County One Person Scramble Golf Championship at Buckingham Golf and Country Club at the base of Mount Konocti.
Matt Wotherspoon won the 30th annual Lake County Tournament of Champions this past Saturday at Buckingham Golf and Country Club by shooting a rock solid two under par 70 to win by six strokes. Wotherspoon just finished his fourth year of college golf at California State University-San Bernardino and will give high level amateur tournaments a try for the next few years.
Recent Cal State San Bernardino graduate as well as a member of their golf team, Matt Wotherspoon, overwhelmed the rest of the field to win the 40th annual Lake County Amateur Golf Championship this weekend at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain. The Amateur is the longest running golf tournament of note in Lake County and the 23-year-old Wotherspoon won it for the second time, having also captured the title in 2020.
