If you wanted to know Mike Brown but never had the chance, one could learn much – maybe everything – about the man merely by listening to his doting grandchildren.
They shared stories and anecdotes, relayed this week as part of Brown’s funeral services. Their words were alternately touching and funny and insightful, and entirely relevant to the legacy of the Hall of Fame basketball coach from Albuquerque Academy.
Brown, 75, died on June 30.

Right place, right time - Cliff grad, PNM meter reader saves customer after fall
For those who know him, Luis Apodaca’s actions last month while on the job as a PNM meter reader weren’t a big surprise.
Apodaca, who works in the Silver City area, repeatedly encountered two large, protective dogs on a customer’s property behind a locked gate, blocking his access to an electric meter in her backyard, according to a release from PNM. He spoke with the homeowner, who committed to putting the dogs away and unlocking the gate the day her meter was scheduled to be read each month.
