TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - In a 3-2 vote on Tuesday, the Tifton City Council decided to continue its mask or face-covering ordinance.
The original ordinance was passed last month and was set to last for 30 days.
“We came up on that date. They (the council) discussed it tonight and opted to extend it for another 30 days,” said City Manager Pete Pyrzenski. “They felt that was the best thing for the City of Tifton.”
The extension is the same as the original ordinance. Which means you are required to wear a face mask or face-covering in public places. There are no fines associated with the ordinance, but officials want you to be mindful that this is a law.

TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - An over $12 million housing project is in the works now in Tifton.
Right now, the site is clear and construction on the project should start in May or June of next year.
Half of the 56 unit residential development will be available for people with low incomes and the other half will be available to the public at the market rate.
The idea behind this is to secure rental income for high-risk development and to inspire different types of people to grow and learn from each other for the good of the community.

TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - Hazardous duty pay has been extended for Tifton public safety workers.
This comes as the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was approved in a unanimous vote during Monday night’s Tifton City Council meeting.
This is in effect for police, firefighters and other public safety workers that could be exposed to COVID-19 any given day.
“We appreciate what our public safety employees do, and all employees for that matter, but on the front-lines, this is a special time. So, again, they’re doing their job and learning how to deal with this effectively,” said Tifton City Manager Pete Pyrzenski.
