Scotland s capercaillie population could now be below 1,000 birds

Action needed to save capercaillie from extinction, say conservationists

Scotland s two national parks part of £239m restoration drive

SCOTLAND’S two national parks are to play a vital role in a new £239 million project to restore some of the UK’s most beautiful natural landscapes over the next decade. In an announcement timed for the run-up to COP26 in Glasgow, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority and Cairngorms National Park Authority have joined with the 13 other national parks in England and Wales to form a partnership with global impact firm Palladium. The aim is to help find £239m to fund vital restoration work over the next 10 years with the aim of creating a sustainable funding model for nature restoration. The partnership said that the national parks have the knowledge and expertise to develop and deliver conservation and restoration projects on the ground, but to date have struggled to raise the necessary funding.
