As coronavirus vaccines become more widely available and employers begin making plans to bring employees back in-person, contractors who specialize in air purification are seeing an uptick in business.
Pete Doyle, the founder of Pensacola-based Engineered Cooling Services, said the technologies they use, namely bipolar ionization devices, have picked up commercial popularity after they were previously used for sterile spaces like operating rooms.
The device attaches to an HVAC system and works by releasing ions into the air, which collect tiny particles, such as the coronavirus, into larger particles that can be caught and deactivated in air filter systems.
“We did have this before but the demand was very limited. … With the onset of the coronavirus, the technologies that had been in existence became much more in the forefront,” Doyle said.
