PESHAWAR: University of Peshawar (UoP) has stopped the 10-day salary of a number of the teaching staff on the charges of non-performance of duties.
The teachers, whose salaries were stopped included Dr Syed Owais, assistant professor, Dr Javeria Raza, Dr Naila Aman Qazi, Dr Zafar Khan and Ms Shehla Khan, lecturers in the Department of sociology.
Peshawar University Teachers Association (Puta) alleged this was because the teachers remained absent from campus for participation in the recent strike of teachers.A notification on Monday stated: “On the recommendation of the chairman, Department of Sociology, the faculty members of the department are treated as on leave without pay due to non-performance of duties since the day one of PUTA’s strike call with effect from 28-6-2021 to 7-7-2021.”

PESHAWAR: The teachers and employees of the public sector universities have announced a pen-down strike in all universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today (Tuesday) to protest against the lathi charge and teargas shelling on the protestors.
Speaking at a news conference here on Monday, Peshawar University Teachers Association (Puta) President Dr Fazal Nasir and others demanded immediate release of all the arrested employees. He demanded expulsion of Dr Attaur Rahman from the Academic and Search Committee.
The Puta chief asked the government to establish provincial Higher Education Commission as was done by Punjab and Sindh and withdraw the notification about cut in the salaries and pensions.
Remaining educational institutions reopen today

PESHAWAR: The remaining educational institutions are reopening today after closer due to Covid-19 and the extended winter vacation.
The institutions for grade nine to 12 have already opened for academic activities on January 18. The schools from playgroup to middle level, colleges for degree programmes and universities are reopening today.
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) had earlier decided that the educational institutions would reopen from January 18 and 25, but later some changes were made and the lower and higher educational institutions were asked to reopen from February 1.
The private schools especially in the rural areas have already resumed their on-campus academic activities in defiance of the government decision.

PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Saturday moved an adjournment motion to hold a debate in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to address the concerns of employees of the University of Peshawar (UoP) over the payment of the half salary for the month of January due to financial crisis.
Inayatullah Khan, the parliamentary leader of JI in the provincial assembly, submitted the adjournment motion to the assembly secretariat to discuss the salary issue of the university employees.
A notification issued by the office of UoP registrar said that due to financial constraints the university was not able to disburse full salary to its employees for the month of January and only basic and personal pay would be given to them.
