Art Incubator announces second grant recipient for 2021
Shan Turner-Carroll is the latest emerging artist to benefit from the Art Incubator initiative.
Words: Charlotte Middleton
Tom Keukenmeester on this year’s program.
Art Incubator was established by collectors and philanthropists
Teresa and
Andre Biet as an initiative to provide a financial grant and mentorships to two or three emerging artists annually. The program concludes with an exhibition organised by the initiative at a major commercial gallery.
Based between Sydney and regional NSW, Shan Turner-Carroll is an Australian artist of Anglo-Burmese descent who works in photography, sculpture, installation and performance to embody the role of the trickster, magician or pilgrim. The artist uses the human body, common gestures and everyday objects in alchemical ways, perceiving the process of artmaking as ritualistic and transformative.
