governor rendell. well, it panned out. it looks to everybody like they re going more and more extreme, but governor ed rendell, they did win in 2010. how do you explain that dichoto dichotomy? well, first of all, i don t think the american people focused on what they were talking about. they looked at the recession, they looked at the party that was in power, we got outspun badly on stimulus. stimulus kept unemployment from ratcheting up to 11% or 12%. but nobody would believe that. almost half of the stimulus bill was tax cuts. nobody would believe that. in the stimulus bill, every working american family got a tax cut, but nobody would believe that. we just got outspun badly on that and on health care. they were able to convince americans that these were big spending programs that had no effect and no benefit. people are starting to find out now health care had a whole plot of benefits and the president did a very good job of letting the american people know what
happened yesterday is your question, ed. there are 37 states around this country that have said we should leave it to the tenth amendment. those powers not specifically delineated in the constitution we should allow that power and abilities to the state. i think it has never, ever been attempted by a congress, democrat or republican, to say an american has to purchase a particular goodened service. that has never happened. you think they withstand the legal test here? i do. i read the constitution again this afternoon. i don t see anywhere in the constitution this government and our founders specifically called on americans to particularly guy a gooder service. jennifer, is this whining politics or going to play in a lot of places? i think actually here is where ron, i agree that there s a point that is going to elongate this debate. more than the repeal process. more than what s going to happen. excuse me. my eyes are watering with these camera lights. more than what we re goi
united states now. americans love a winner. he is a winner tonight. this is just the beginning. i don t believe this is really health care reform. this is the opening so health care reform is now just not possible but also a necessity. governor dean, what are the midterms going to look like? i know six, eight months is an eternity in politics. this does set the table for the democrats to run on change and to say, we did what we said we were going to do. didn t get everything we want, and i think the american people understand how many olive branches were coming out of the white house to get the republicans on board. they were upfront about obstruction all along. this is good for the midterms from the democratic point of view. people love a strong president. this is now a strong president with a big win under his belt. that s going to help the democrats across the board. we re still going to lose some seats, but i think it s much less likely we ll lose our majority in either house a
welcome back to the ed show. thanks for watching tonight. health care reform is good for the country, but it is especially good, and the story has not been told enough, for small businesses. the thing that gets me, the republicans know this. small businesses are going to get a tax credit worth 35% of their health care costs. it s going to jump to 50% in the tax credit in two years. this is right out of their playbook. the insurance exchange will provide more bargaining power. they ll be able to purchase better coverage at a, buzz phrase, lower cost. the small business majority group predicts coverage costs could drop by as much as 30%. this will encourage more americans to take a risk, take a
