obama lite, someone who will blur the lines. norm coleman is special adviser for the romney campaign. good to see you again. great to be with you, thank you. let s talk about perry versus romney showdown. it does seem to be a two-person race. what about rick perry s surge in the polls and the fact he has replaced romney as the front-runner? andrea, the reality is that the horse is first out of the gate doesn t necessarily cross the finish line first. perry has entered the campaign but in the end voters, first republican voters and their process, 24 years in the private sector knows what it takes to grow jobs. career politicians got us into this mess, they are not going to get us out. that s going to be effective both for republicans and then ultimately to mainstream voters
the future. i think that s what voters look for and with good reason. originally when it was talked about would perry get in the race, much of the conversation was about perry versus michele bachmann, because they re both these very conservative candidates. i think the on us is on michele bachmann to prove she can keep up, but organization, media buzz. you haven t heard that much about michele bachmann in the last couple days even though she won the straw poll. she s been a better candidate than a lot of people thought she would be, but she may have trouble keeping up. the biggest strategic question is does mitt romney try to wing iowa. he would rather not have to compete there, but that s where a lot of the focus will be before new hampshire, iowa votes first. he runs the risk of losing if perry wins iowa, romney runs the risk of perry coming out of iowa with momentum. that may have to be something to
federal government money at the time. this was upheld, though, in a supreme court case in 1935, is that correct? that s correct. the case is called perry versus united states. and the court said this doesn t simply apply to the civil war debt. it applies to all debts contracted by the united states. and they said that to allow congress to vary the repayment of the debt would mean that the pledge of the national faith was illusory, and they said the constitution forecloses that choice. so, the argument, then, runs, it is up to the president, who is required right. to take care that the law be faith fll execufully execute out the command of the constitution. who would have to have in this case, then, it would have to be congress would be the only ones that would have standing to challenge the president s authority on this, and so what would how would that take place? to be honest, chuck, i don t
