one-on-one talks with senate minority leader mitch mcconnell. joining me now, msnbc contributor perry bacon jr., and christina belantoni. perry, we have senator reid saying negotiations with senator mcconnell are in the earliest of stages but hopes to have a deal fairly soon. how realistic is that? thursday is the day. so thursday is a really big day here. neither party wants to go over the debt ceiling. i think in some ways the negotiations have to go pretty quickly if only because time is running out. i really think in particular the republican party, you saw those polls last week. the nbc poll. their party is at the lowest it s been ever on some level by the measures of that poll. so i think they don t want to, you know they ve already pushed for a shutdown. that s driven the numbers down. they don t want to go over the debt ceiling and be blamed for that as well. there s a strong incident for the republicans to find some way through this. i expect by thursday they will. okay.
really get a detailed plan where it is going to happen. there say reason for that. not trying to repeal medicare. trying to save it, right. that one didn t work. save it. right. it is one of those, i tend to share what you re saying, i have to admit, i m thinking back to march 2010 and we re telling people, talk to me in a year or two, and we re still here now saying when is this going to turn around. but it is still survived which is something else. i want to thank beth ryanert, perry bacon jr. and joe conoson. we promised earlier we would show you the dramatic conclusion of up against the clock, our game show, the closest contest in the history of up against the clock. here s how it ended. 400, jonathan, you have 200, joe, you have negative 200. this is a 300 point question. members of congress from both parties expressed concern this week when the u.s. postal service announced plans to raise

sort of popularity i think he anticipated when it was first signed into law. here, starting october 1st and up until march, we ll have millions and millions of people sign up for these benefits, and they look very different in each state. they cost very different amounts in different states and in a lot of these states, perry bacon jr. has a piece up on msnbc.com where he says the way to sell these plans in different states is to not mention obama because, you know, tying him to it only well, it s called obama care. but it s not called obama care in connecticut and georgia. it s called something very different. they have different names for it there. but isn t that a form of deception in a way? it s about the facts of it, not what you call it. i think the goal here for obama is to sign up as many healthy young people as they can. if you re in kentucky or
