Cuyahoga County Council president proposes Election Day off for county workers instead of Juneteenth

Cuyahoga County Council president proposes Election Day off for county workers instead of Juneteenth Courtney Astolfi, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio Cuyahoga County Council President Pernel Jones Jr. on Tuesday proposed county workers receive a paid holiday off for Election Day, rather than County Executive Armond Budish’s idea to make Juneteenth a paid day off. Jones offered his idea at a meeting of council’s Human Resources, Appointments and Equity Committee, which took no action on the Juneteenth proposal in order to give more consideration to the Election Day suggestion and other alternatives to Budish’s plan. “[We] have the opportunity do something that is a direct result of our liberties that Juneteenth provided for us,” Jones said. “[Employees would] have the opportunity to exercise the very freedom that Juneteenth echoes for us: the ability to go out and cast a vote.”
