Robert Maxwell, in full Ian Robert Maxwell, original name Jan Ludvik Hoch, (born June 10, 1923, Slatina-Selo, Czechoslovakia died November 5, 1991, at sea off the Canary Islands), Czechoslovak-born British publisher who built an international communications empire.
