Responding to the news that human rights organisations from Ukraine and Russia, as well as rights advocate Ales Bialiatski of Belarus, have been awarded this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, Agnès Callamard, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, said:
Human rights are indivisible and being poor does not strip you of your right to human rights. We must defend this at all costs and at all times. No human life is less valuable than anyone else’s, so why do poor activists continue to be killed with few or no repercussions or sanction?
