Lawmakers push constitutional convention

The Ranger RIVERTON — It’s been 234 years since the Constitutional Convention, and some Wyoming lawmakers think that’s long enough. State Senate Joint Resolution 2 is a bid to launch a new convention of states in order to amend the U.S. Constitution in ways that would limit federal power. Republican state Senators Cale Case, of Lander, and Ed Cooper, of Ten Sleep, along with State Rep. Pepper Ottman, R-Riverton, have co-sponsored the bill, which was introduced to the Senate on Feb. 24. It was heard Wednesday in the Senate Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee. Notably, other pens behind the effort are those of House Speaker Eric Barlow, R-Gillette, and Senate Majority Floor Leader Ogden Driskill, R-Devils Tower.

Informed consent abortion legislation proposed in Wyoming

Informed consent abortion legislation proposed in Wyoming MGN Online CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Women in Wyoming would be allowed to view an ultrasound and hear the heartbeat of the fetus before seeking a non-emergency abortion under a proposed bill filed for the 2021 Legislative session. The bill would order doctors to make that option available to women who are seeking abortions. The bill would also order several steps prior to performing an abortion, including providing a written description of the procedure, a written description of the possible mental health impact on women who have abortions and other steps designed to mandate that women would be giving informed consent, KGAB-AM reported Tuesday.
