video and post it online, with people sifting through the rubble. hoping to find survivors. you see a dog in the back of a pickup truck. smoke visible from the wreckage. some homes were burned down as a result. i want to get back to the senior national correspondent john roberts live in moore, oklahoma, with a guest now. and the latest from there. john, hello, again. reporter: hello again, bill, just to set the scene here, we re in front of the moore medical center which is just to the west of i-35, the main north-south corridor that runs through the heart of oklahoma. they believe they got everybody out of here with no serious injuries the search-and-rescue efforts though still continue. when you talk about tornado damage and damage of this scale, you get houses that are blown apart. so they re fairly easy to look through. but you also get almost an earthquake effect where the buildings collapse and pancake down on top of them and the way the buildings come down can sometimes create
of the homes trying to locate people but i know that at least two of the homes that they were digging through, they found those people well and alive. they had actually left the neighborhood before the storm and came back. so they were okay but a lot of people sifting through a lot of rubble in what was just utter devastation in the neighborhood directly to the west of the moore medical center out here in moore. guys, back to you. sarah stewart, we appreciate it. mike morgan is over in the weather center right now. we ve been talking about this storm in comparison to the may 3rd, 1999, storm that was an historic storm of its own that moved through moore, oklahoma. we ve been listening to our nbc affiliate with the terrible news, two dozen children, third grade students died at school. they were kept in school holding on to a wall and apparently it was a direct hit. nothing you can do anything
for her to count. her little ones were not in their beds when a tree tore a hole through their home. people sifting through the aftermath major delays on amtrak tonight from our nation s capital to philadelphia after service was cut for hours earlier. now we are learning about a hard harrowing ordeal for 2232 amtrak passengers stuck on a 232 amtrak passengers stuck on a train for 12 hours, trees blocking the tracks, they had to sit there. this happened outside of west virginia the train traveling originally from new york city to chicago. amtrak spokesperson saying all the passengers have just been loaded on to buses to get them to their destinations. in virginia six of the 12 confirmed dead were from there. doug, a long hot night ahead for survivors? reporter: boy it sure is harris this is a house behind
