On the eve of the trial for a former Minneapolis police officer charged in the death of George Floyd, people across the country are rallying to honor Floyd and demand justice, including in Maryland.A demonstration Sunday led by the People s Power Assembly had people coming together to remember the life of Floyd almost a year after his death. Floyd died in police custody in May after then-Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin was shown on cellphone video with his knee on Floyd s neck for several minutes as Floyd pleaded, I can t breathe! Floyd later died.Chauvin, a 19-year veteran with his former department, was eventually arrested and charged with murder.Floyd s death sparked demonstrations worldwide last summer, and here at Sunday s rally in Baltimore, organizers said they re hoping for a conviction.
