STOCKBRIDGE â The Community Development for Real People and Feeding Godâs People Food Pantry hosted a grocery giveaway in honor of Carrie Mae Hambrick in Stockbridge Saturday.
The event was held at the historic Green Front Cafe which Hambrick owned for more than 60 years.
The cafe, founded in the 1940s, was not only one of the first in Henry County, but also the first restaurant owned and operated by a Black woman.
More than 700 food boxes were distributed to residents during Saturdayâs event. Personal hygiene items, toiletries and feminine products were also distributed.
Elton Alexander, president of CD4RP and city council member, called the giveaway a blessing, adding it was an âamazing day of giving and togetherness in Stockbridge.â
