Suggestions to prevent council corruption
A REVIEW into Kingston Council planning applications involving people implicated in the corruption scandal which brought down Casey Council has been completed.
The probity review, completed by Holding Redlich, was presented to Kingston councillors on Monday. A summary prepared by Kingston Council officers read that “no evidence of improper conduct was found and thirteen recommendations were made to improve practices that were identified during the review.”
The report cost ratepayers nearly $250,000, excluding officer time. The summary prepared by council officers read that the “report is privileged and confidential communication between Kingston City Council and Holding Redlich for the purpose of providing legal advice”. A copy has been provided to the offices of the state’s peak anti-corruption body IBAC, and the Victorian Ombudsman.

A MURAL in memory of Natalie Russell will be installed on the Frankston North track named after her.
Natalie Russell was walking home from school on what is now known as Nat’s Track in 1993 when she was taken and killed. Works will soon begin to improve the track, which is still used by students today.
Ms Russell’s parents Brian and Carmel praised the plans to improve the track. “We are pleased and honoured about the works – it’s what we have wanted and they will improve safety,” Brian Russell said.
Frankston Council recently approved spending another $87,000 on the track. That funding will be used for solar lights, landscape beautification, public art, and the installation of the memorial artwork in consultation with Ms Russell’s family.
They dropped three shots between them on their final hole but Victorian pair Ben Eccles and Marcus Fraser share the lead midway through the opening round of the Gippsland Super 6 at Yallourn Golf Club.
