Far north iwi Te Aupouri s newly-appointed business development manager says renewable energy will play a major role in the region’s future.
Penetaui Kleskovic was at Ngāwhā this morning to see Te Taitokerau MP Kelvin Davis opening Top Energy’s new geothermal power station.
It follows Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Aupouri chair Rhonda Kite last week turning the first sod for construction of a 12-hectare, $30 million solar power station at Pukenui on the Aupouri Peninsula. It s a step in the right direction, revolutionary technology here in the north utilising our taonga. Here in Ngāwhā it s geothermal and in the winterless north, in Aupouri it s a lot of sun which is part of the reason they decided Pukenui would be a great area for a solar farm, Mr Kleskovic says.
