The Northbrook Park District Board of Commissioners welcomed a newly elected member and retained two incumbents after saying goodbye to a distinguished Commissioner.
Elected in April, Michael Goodman was sworn in as a new Commissioner at the May 26, 2021 Board meeting. He takes the position after Penelope Randel, a Commissioner since 1993, decided not to seek reelection. Vice President Lisa Chalem, a member of the Board since 2016, and Commissioner Michael Schyman, a member since 2009, will retain their seats.
A lifelong resident of Northbrook, Goodman joined the Board as a way to give back after the many positive experiences he and his family, which includes his wife Lindsay and two children Max and Sydney, have enjoyed through Northbrook Park District activities and events.

With a 28-year legacy of leadership, conservation and a commitment to improving her community through recreation, Northbrook Park District Commissioner Penelope Randel has retired.
A Northbrook resident since 1979, Randel was elected to the board in 1993 and served twice as vice president from 1994-1997 and 2015-2017. She also served twice as president from 1997-1998 and again from 2017-2020. Randel ties with Edward J. Rudolph as the longest serving member of the board, who served from 1947-1975.
