Mar 03, 2021 02:19:34 PM The Minister for Defence Inia Seruiratu has labeled the naming of those earmarked to succeed the Commander RFMF and Commissioners of Corrections and Police on social media as fake news. This after the positions of Police Commissioner, Commander of the Fiji Military Forces, and Commissioner of Fiji Corrections Services were advertised last month. The three appointments are made by the President based on advice from the Constitutional Officers Commission. Seruiratu in an interview said there was a need for some urgency to be placed on making substantive appointments to key positions in the disciplined forces. “It’s important that these positions be filled. They are important for our country and for the organisations as well. I’m hopeful that due process will take place.”

Feb 07, 2021 11:52:08 AM The Fiji Police Force and the Ministry of Forestry have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to safeguard the country’s forest cover estimated at approximately 1.1 million or 60 per cent of the country’s total land area. The MOU will also strengthen cooperation in the areas of information sharing, investigation, prosecution and overall improvement of processes to decrease illegal activities in the Forestry sector. Ministry of Forestry’s Permanent Secretary Pene Baleinabuli said the 1.1million of forests is a lot of area to manage for the staff located at their 20 field stations across the country and the partnership with Police will significantly expand their reach and ability to monitor forest areas and to promote sustainable management.
