Fairfield, IA- Authorities issued a lockdown order for Fairfield Schools Friday after a man with a firearm was reported near the school. According to a news release, on Friday, May 27th, at about 12:40 PM Jefferson County Dispatch received a report of an armed man on the grounds of Pence Elementary School in Fairfield. A lockdown order was subsequently issued for all Fairfield schools. Authorities responded to Pence elementary in under 3 minutes and secured the area. A search for the armed man was conducted with the assistance of a k-9, but no one matching the description was found. The lockdown orders were lifted at about 1:45 PM. Law enforcement then shifted efforts to a criminal investigation of possible brandishing a firearm on school grounds. The investigation is ongoing.
