GEORGE TOWN, July 5 Once Covid-19 self-test kits are available in the market, the government may make it compulsory for everyone to conduct self-testing at home, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He suggested that the government will make it compulsory for people to buy these self-test kits and perform them at home.
“Once these self-test kits are available in the market, everyone can do it at home and know their results fast so that if they are positive, they can immediately go to the hospital for treatment,” he said during a press conference after visiting the Penang Covid-19 Mass Screening (PSC19) programme at the city stadium here.
He added this was achieved as of Saturday (July 3).
“With this, we managed to achieve the three main indicators to enter into Phase Two of the NRP, said Chow.
“I was informed that the relevant ministries will discuss the phase transition for Penang to be tabled in the special session of the National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Monday (July 5),” he added in a statement on Sunday (July 4).
The three main indicators include the number of daily Covid-19 cases reported, the number of people who are fully vaccinated and the state of the healthcare system.
Chow also reassured that it is a balancing act between the vaccination centres’ capabilities and also the vaccines that Penang would be able to receive.
