so where is the harm? duck dynasty, it s niche programming. for those who think alike. and there is no down side for letting bigotry run part of their entertainment. it is really a cultural call that has been made by a & e. and i think it s one that could haunt them for a long time to come. they are now a marked network. they ll do anything for a dollar. joining me now, rapid response panel, dr. michael eric dyson with us tonight. georgetown university professor and msnbc political analyst. and also with us tonight, mike papantonio, ring of fire radio host. great to have you with us tonight. michael, you first. what is a & e network saying here, what statement are they making by reversing this decision? el with, as you brilliantly articulated ed, what they are saying is that black people and gay people don t count. they don t matter to the bottom line. they don t figure in our calculations about what we think is offensive. and as a result of the cracker
aurora, as well? el with, we learned a specific lesson at columbine, a major shift in the police service. and, of course, in education. because what we did, we spichd fr switched from the old hostage barricade situation and you wait for the tactel california unit at columbine to realize you can t wait because these active killers are in there for the purpose of killing everybody. they don t want to play into cuba, they don t want money, they don t want their family released from prison. what they want is to kill everybody and commit suicide. that was a major paradigm shift. and all of us in law enforcement went through different training. and especially on the back of first responding patrol officers and school resource officers to go right in, like they did at newtown. they went right in, and that s what you ve got to do. so we have seen a shift. in this case, the drill of this student, to lock the doors,
average americans who rely on these programs. they re not looking for solutions. they re just looking to cut. there s a saying. if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, well, it must be a duck. well, if a group that is funded by wall street talks like a republican and acts like a republican, guess what? it isn t progressive. joining me now, our rapid response panel, john fugelsang and ruth conniff of the progressive magazine. ruth, how dangerous is this group to the progressive movement? look, there are some things this outfit would vote with the left on. the center is very, very important. but the things they wrote about elizabeth warren were very, very interesting, to say the least. where does this all cut? el with, look, i mean, i think in some ways, they re less dangerous now than they were during the clinton administration when we heard a lot from the dlc about third way. and president clinton himself used the phrase, the third way. and the idea was, in a boom time
el with, the other thing is, rand paul s plan is to have detroit bail itself out. now, that s a dandy. no one knows what the heck he s talking about. look, it takes instagram, man. he s caught on instagram doing selfies, a self bailout, a self picture. this is the selfie generation. self-serve. it s good for the gas on your automobile, but nothing to do with baling yourself out. if the people could bail themselves out, they wouldn t be of economic condition they re in. they didn t get themselves in that condition. and it s been going on the last 40 to 50 years as dr. wendell anthony talked about, the report in de moss and other outlets have talked about the reality that this is an economic crisis that has been building for years. the shift from manufacturing to service industries has depleted resources. the jobs went out to the suburbs. and now they re returning to detroit to take it back over to buy up the buildings and disaster capitalism at its worst in detroit right now. with
day, americans are going to be very satisfied with the affordable care act. i remind people all of the time how things were before we passed the affordable care act. how many people lost their coverage or got increases in premiums or had problems with their insurance companies, because they didn t cover what they thought was being covered. we have a long time between now and next november. and we expect that by then, the exchanges of what s happened in the beginning will not be a major issue, because people will have their coverage and we re going to see that, in fact, people have much better quality health coverage than they have today. last question. commentators, including jon stewart, have made the point that republicans have a much bigger problem with statements of facts about the health care law. so why does this seem like the democratic party is paying the bigger price? el with, you know, the it s very interesting. we talked about this before. in the previous times that we
