Share Jobs are booming in major sectors of the economy, despite the virus-induced recession inflicting employment losses on more than 100,000 Australians. The number of people employed in the retail, education and training, mining, agriculture, financial services and public safety industries has risen to well above pre-pandemic levels. An analysis of detailed labour force data by The Australian Financial Review shows the wide-ranging disparity in the employment market and how the COVID-19 recession is reshaping the economy. Supermarkets and other food retailers have hired more staff to cope with a surge in people eating more at home and panic-buying during lockdowns.
