The New Market Town Council was informed at its meeting Monday that a petition has been created to bring back the Battle of New Market reenactments at the Virginia Museum
The New Market Town Council approved changes to the current budget, some of which show COVID-19âs effect on revenues.
Mayor Larry Bompiani, Vice Mayor Peggy Harkness and council members Douglas Bradley, Janice Hannah, Bob King, Daryl Watkins and Scott Wymer attended the meeting. Harkness, Bradley, Hannah, King, Watkins and Wymer voted in favor of the motion to amend the budget to reflect estimated losses and gains in revenue as well as spending.
Council members approved the following changes to the fiscal 2021 budget: increases in revenue of $75,000 from meals tax and $12,000 from the transient occupancy or hotel tax. The budget also now reflects an additional $36,735 the town received through the federal Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act via Shenandoah County; a $45,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture the town plans to use to buy two police vehicles; and a $2,000 grant awarded by the Virginia Risk Sharing Association.
