After reviewing applications and conducting a thorough interview process, the Town of Waynesville’s Board of Aldermen have settled on four new members.
There aren’t a lot of differences between the five Republican candidates running for Haywood County Commission this year, but one big disparity was gl.
Waynesville leaders have reversed course on filling five vacancies on its controversial homeless task force, dashing hopes of critics that an infusion of additional members would bring more balance.
The task force came under fire shortly after its inception for being weighted toward those involved in homeless outreach and support, including social services, nonprofits and faith-based groups. After five people appointed to the task force dropped out without ever attending a single meeting, critics saw it as a chance to level the playing field.
âOn the five vacant seats, please consider making it residents or business owners, especially people from those areas that have been affected by the homeless â but not more of the nonprofits and charities and churches,â Wanda Brooks urged when addressing the town board during public comment in October.
