The council approved the audit at a special meeting on Monday, March 29.
Jeremiah Armijo, the senior audit manager for the auditing company, told the council the audit process with the cityâs staff went smooth.
While SIT doesnât audit 100 percent the cityâs financials, they make statistical opinions based on the samples they pull, Armijo told the council during a recent meeting.
âManagement was very cooperative and collaborative, and there were no disagreements as related to the audit,â Armijo said.
Armijo said an unmodified audit is a clean opinion on the financial statements, meaning that its the best type of opinion a municipality can get. He told the council there were no material weaknesses identified, although there were two significant deficiencies.
RIO COMMUNITIESâAfter nearly a year without a city manager, the Rio Communities City Council voted unanimously last week to hire Martin âMartyâ Moore, Ph.D.Â
The position has been essentially vacant since last January when the city council placed the former city manager, Leisa Haynes, on suspension. She was ultimately terminated in March.
Eighteen people applied to be the manager for the city of Rio Communities, but only one got the job.
While Moore has never been to Rio Communities â except virtually â he will begin his new position on Jan. 11.
Moore comes to Rio Communities with experience and education in government. He was the city manager in Batavia, N.Y., for two years until September when he and the city had an âamicable separation.â
