The Victorian Premierâs award for an unpublished manuscript has a remarkable track record for picking winners. The inaugural winner was Carrie Tiffany in 2003 for Everymanâs Rules for Scientific Living, since when winners such as Peggy Frew, Graeme Simsion, Jane Harper, Maxine Beneba Clarke, Melanie Cheng and Christian White have all been published to acclaim, awards and in some cases massive sales.

This yearâs winner, Andre Dao, says he has been working on âa versionâ his novel,
