MDOT says it’ll be lifting lane restrictions on more than 62% of road and bridge projects. AAA Michigan estimates more than 1.1 million Michigan residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, a 57 percent increase from last year. Related: Beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, May 28, and continuing until 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 121 out of 194 projects statewide will have lane restrictions removed. While motorists will see suspended operations in most MDOT work zones for the weekend, drivers are advised that equipment and certain traffic configurations may remain in place, like temporary shifts or shoulder closures.

Culvert replacement starts next week in the Keweenaw

HOUGHTON, MI    The spring road work season begins in Houghton County Monday. The Michigan Department of Transportation is replacing culverts on M-26 and US-41. About $1 million will go toward replacing one over Umbrella Tree Creek west of Goat Hill Road on M-26. Work also includes asphalt paving, installing a guardrail and pavement markings. The project is expected to be completed in late July. And MDOT is replacing a culvert on US-41 over Peepsock Creek near Pilgrim Terrace Lane. Work will include asphalt paving, drainage, steel sheet piling, riprap and pavement markings. That $1.7 million project is expected to be wrapped up by mid-July.
