The pick-up van was carrying members of a family returning from a marriage function at Akhipur to their Chitrakut Nagar residence in Danapur. The incident took place around 7.30 am, he said.

Image tweeted by @ramkripalmp PATNA: Altogether nine persons including four women and three minors were drowned by remaining trapped inside the SUV in which they were travelling when it fell into river Ganga from pontoon bridge near Purani Panapur under Akilpur police station area of Saran police on Friday. Soon after the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team headed by a sub-inspector Ashok Kumar was pressed into action which pulled out the nine bodies one by one from inside the SUV after it was fished out from approximately a 25-feet deep river bed using a crane. The accident took place at around 8.30am.
