airliners has radar. they can get realtime images of thunderstorms that are in the vicinity. so they have the most current up-to-date information. professional pilots learn early how to read weather radar and take this information and to address it in a way that you avoid flying in to the thunderstorms. this is something pilots do frequently, deal with thunderstorms and avoid them. i would expect nothing out of the ordinary from this crew. isn t it monsoon season there? maybe they are dealing with extremely bad weather? it is hard to say. the we all operate in a variety of weather conditions, but at no time does a pilot operate anytime there is any question about the safety of the flight. you can operate around areas of thunderstorms. you just don t fly in to them. and this on-board weather radar
