Southwark Council’s lead member for housing has resigned after it emerged he was behind an anonymous Twitter account that criticised local campaigners
Leo Pollak, a Labour councillor for South Bermondsey, has tweeted pro-development and social housing content under the now-deleted handle @southwarkYIMBY – a play on ‘nimby’ or ‘not in my back yard – since late 2017, despite also having an account tied to his name.

An archived version of the account, dating to May 2019, shows Pollak largely retweeted his other account and content relating to Southwark Council and Canada Water – although one tweet calls campaign group Peckham Visions ‘ridiculous’.
