State reports 5 new COVID-19 outbreaks at St. Clair County schools

More than two dozen staff and student cases of the coronavirus have been newly reported at several schools around St. Clair County mostly in Marine City and Marysville.
That’s according to the latest data sent to the state by local health officials, marking a shift since last week when there were no new or ongoing cases listed for local districts. New and ongoing school outbreaks are updated Mondays.
Marine City middle and high schools, which are connected by a cafeteria, returned to remote learning on Monday as a result of the rise in cases. The high school was reported to have nine cases among students and staff, as of Monday afternoon, and East China Schools Superintendent Suzanne Cybulla said parents of affected students were notified of the shift before noon on Saturday

The data was collected on Thursday, March 4.
The biggest new outbreaks involves 24 students and staff at Portage Central High School and 20 students at Portage Central Elementary in Kalamazoo County.
The only new outbreak at a college is five infections at Ferris State University.
New K-12 school outbreaks also were identified in 20 counties. Below are those outbreaks listed by county:
Antrim County: Central Lake High School, staffer and student.
Bay County: Bay City Cohn Glen High School, staffer and student.
Berrien County: Berrien Springs High School, four students.
