Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was recovered from the sea at Pebbles Beach, St Michael on Sunday. Communications and Public Affairs Officer of the Barbados Police Service Inspector Rodney Inniss said the matter was reported around 10:55 a.m. Inniss said he could only disclose that the deceased was a white male, as police are trying to locate his relatives. Founder of Action for Animals Barbados Gail Hunte says punishment for animal abuse needs to be tougher to serve as a deterrent to would-be offenders.
She said light sentences like that given to a man earlier this week after he admitted to mistreating his dog did not demonstrate that animal abuse in Barbados would be dealt with seriously.

That was the sentiment of animal rights activists from the public gallery of Supreme Court 5, as the Chief Magistrate presided over the case of animal cruelty-accused Davino Howard and rendered his "zero sentence".
The man who was caught on camera mistreating a dog on Pebbles Beach last September has admitted to animal cruelty, four months after pleading not guilty when he was first hauled before the court.Davino Shakell Howard, 28, pleaded guilty to the animal cruelty charge after being sentenced for two other offences related to the highly-publicised incident. He will learn next week what punishment he will face for that crime.Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes on Friday placed the landscaper from Bullens Avenue, Dalkeith Road, St Michael on 12 months of probation, in addition to counselling deemed necessary by authorities, on two charges he pleaded guilty to on his first appearance in court late last year – owning a dog over the age of six months without obtaining a licence and withholding information requested by Sergeant of Police Cecil Taylor.Those two offences were committed on September 16, 2023.
