The little OPERA theatre of ny (LOTNY) will present American One Acts, a double bill, conducted by Gregory Hopkins and directed by Philip Shneidman, from May 31 - June 4, 2023 at Baruch Performing Arts Center.
Timed for Easter, an album arrives called Ave Maria. The contents are described as “sacred arias”, though we don’t usually think of Silent Night as an aria or the operas Rienzi and The Pearl Fishers as “sacred”. However, when the singer is Joseph Calleja, who’s going to fret over pigeonholes? Certainly not his record company, Decca: for 20 years, it has been primarily spotlighting his sunburnt tenor in wide-ranging recitals, deliberately aiming for mass appeal.
Opera North's season for Spring 2023 includes two new productions exploring loss, memory and renewal: Bizet's The Pearl Fishers and a contemporary dance staging of Mozart's Requiem paired with After Tears, a new commission by South African composer Neo Muyanga.
