A top class novice who also had Sunday’s Grade 1 two-and-a-half-mile novices’ chase as an option, he was a Grade 1 winner last season as a novice hurdler, and he has finished second to Monkfish in Grade 1 chases twice this season. The defection of Tiger Roll and the resultant raising of the weights was not ideal, but he is a top class individual who could still run a big race under his big weight, and it is interesting that his trainer is fitting cheekpieces for the first time.

Simms correctly predicted Santa Barbara’s population shrinkage. The proportion of the Black community was 1.5% according to the 2000 census and 1.3% in 2010: a 15% drop. The 2020 census is not yet available. Perhaps economic pressure underlies these figures, but do we even know? How can the white population educate itself on the issues that face our Black neighbors?
Now as I read this over, I believe my query has a White Privilege framing. This question may more accurately convey the problem we face: How can we educate ourselves on the issues that face all Santa Barbarans because we lack Black diversity?

She served on the city Planning Commission from 1973 to 1975, the City Council from 1975 to 1981 and as mayor from 1981 to 1993. She returned to public life in 2009, serving again on the Planning Commission.
Lodge was married to former Santa Barbara County Superior Court Judge Joseph Lodge, and they raised four daughters. Lodge s husband s died 12 years ago.
