KILLEEN, TX â A 19-year-old is dead and a 5-year-old is recovering after a shooting in Killeen Saturday afternoon.
Around 3:24 p.m., officers with the Killeen Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of Houston Street in reference to a 911 call about shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found two male victims, one adult and one juvenile, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers performed life saving measures until paramedics arrived.
The 19-year-old was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition, while the juvenile was transported to McLane Children s Hospital.
Her funeral services are currently pending with Chisolm s Family Funeral Home in Killeen.
Brown made history in 2016, when she defeated 21-year incumbent Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin for the Precinct 4, Place 1 seat.
She won the election with 23,871 votes, or 52.2 percent of the total votes cast. Potvin garnered 21,817 votes.
Brown was sworn in to the seat Jan. 2, 2017, making her the first Black woman and first Democrat to serve as Justice of the Peace in Precinct 4.
Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke, who worked with Brown in the Precinct 4 JPâs office, offered his thoughts after hearing of Brownâs passing.
