DDC polls: PDP claims its leaders are detained hours before counting

Srinagar, Dec 22: The PDP has claimed that hours before counting for the District Development Council Polls could begin, many of their senior leaders were detained.
The police are mum on the developments, but PDP leader, Mehbooba Mufti said that the action is out and out Gunda Raj. She also said that it showed that the BJP was trying to manipulate the results.

Those reportedly detained are former minister and senior leader Naeem Akhtar, Mufti s uncle Sartaj Madni, and her former political adviser Peerzada Mansoor Hussain.

The seven-party Gupkar alliance led by Farooq Abdullah was ahead in the seat tally in the maiden District Development Council polls in Jammu and Kashmir by winning or leading in 112 seats out of 280 on Tuesday, followed by the BJP which had won 52 seats, including three in the Valley for the first time, and was frontrunner in 18.

A day before the counting of votes for the District Development Council (DDC) elections, the PDP claimed detention of three of its senior leaders Monday. While the police were silent on the matter, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti called the action “out and out gunda raj”, and said it showed the BJP was trying to “manipulate” the results.
