76 foreign returnees identified in Meerut, on watch for new Covid strain | Meerut News

MEERUT: Amid the fear of the new Covid-19 strain detected in the United Kingdom spreading here, Meerut health department has identified 76 people who returned to the district from foreign destinations since November 23, and put them under surveillance. Of these, 64 returned from the UK. While all of them have tested negative in antigen testing, their RT-PCR reports are yet to arrive. According to a list given out by the health department, as many as 76 foreign returnees have been identified. These include 64 from UK and others from the United States, South Africa, the Netherlands and Bangladesh. An alert has been sounded by the health department in this regard. “The foreign returnees have been classified into two groups those who arrived India between November 23 and December 8, and those who arrived after December 8,” said Dr Akhilesh Mohan, Meerut chief medical officer.
