In a welcome news related to gender statistics and equality of the sexes, the
sex ratio (number of females per 1,000 males) under the jurisdiction of
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has seen a major improvement. The change in focus of awareness in the right target groups and check on abortions and thorough scrutiny of gender determining centres are said to have aided the civic body in achieving the numbers by 42 points in a single year. The sex ratio index at birth in PMC limits touched 946 in 2020 from 904 in 2019, informed civic health officials.
